Skills Development After Stroke

Monday 10.00 AM - 1.30PM

Format: Small groups with a leader (sometimes a volunteer) a quailed Art Teacher co-ordinates activities of an artistic nature i.e. painting in oils & watercolours.

Aims: To encourage members to use forgotten skills, or in many cases to discover new skills. Members are encouraged to produce work & in some cases this work has been sold at fetes etc. The activities on this day promote feelings of selfworth & achievement. Self-confidence & initiative is developed. Social integration & communication skills are also greatly enhanced.

Referral Criteria: New members are referred by health professional Social Care etc or from within the community. Assessment of need is carried out by Stroke Carers' & Family Support Advisor and / or the Stroke Group Co-ordinator.

Transport can be arranged with a contribution towards the cost of £5.50-6.00 and there is also an attendance fee of £7.50 for the day, including lunch. Annual membership fee of £6 payable April each year.

Training: Training sessionsis ongoing for Trustees, Staff, Volunteers & Service Users.

Meeting others: This session is an ideal opportunity to meet others in a enabling, safe environment, to encourage self-confidence & to develop/discover new skills.

A communication group is run in conjunction with adult education in Harwich (1.30 pm - 3.30 pm).
